Working on our current project near Birstall.

Find out about our friendly group.
As well as practical fieldwork, we offer talks and workshops covering all aspects of archaeology.

We hold a members’ meeting on the second Thursday of each month, providing an opportunity
to share ideas and keep up to speed with what is going on in South Leeds and the rest of Yorkshire.

We are always looking for new members, why not contact us to find out more.

The talks are held on the fourth Wednesday each month, with professional archaeologists,
other community archaeologists and members of SLA featured as speakers.

The 2019 programme is now complete.

Click here for the full 2020 programme details

All talks and meetings take place at the Rothwell Community Hub

 Welcome to our web-site

Covid-19 —  Following on from the latest government guidelines (16-3-2020) a decision has had to be made regarding South Leeds Archaeology.  We regret that the next four talks scheduled through to June 2020 are being postponed.  Also the QGIS course scheduled for April/May will also be postponed to future dates.

QGIS Update!!  Having been introduced to ZOOM SLA is now in a position to try out the QGIS course with video conferencing instead of having to travel to Rothwell.

Anybody interested in joining in this training experiment can get the details from our QGIS page

To see us through this period of uncertainty, we have added a new page to our website with periodic bulletins suggesting ways to continue looking at archaeology on the internet.

We will keep the relevant pages updated as the national situation develops.

With best wishes and look after yourselves.

‘Digging Into QGIS’

April/May Course Details now available — See Below

Now available as distance learning  —  see above.

We have run a new course in response to a number of members and other friends of the group who would like to understand Geographical Information Systems in order to better use their computers for mapping as part of archaeological projects.

Our course uses QGIS   (Quantum GIS )  which is Open source and importantly free!  The course lasts for six two hour evening sessions.

Click here for more details including
course dates and content.

‘Introduction to Community Based Archaeology’
This course has now completed three successful series of sessions

We decided not to run the course in 2019. If there are sufficient enquiries it will run again in 2020

We can only do this if enough of you plan to come along.

You don’t need to be a member of SLA but after finding out more about the fascinating world of archaeology, you might decide to join!

Contact us if you would like to receive further details and come along to meet us.
